Latin America’s Battle with Abortion

by: Jordan Cooke

Over the last several years, different countries in Latin America have been fighting to legalize abortion. This past week we heard the news of Colombia and Argentina coming close to passing bills to make abortion legal in their countries. In Argentina, according to a NewYork Times article by Daniel Politi, they have started their second round in the process of moving forward to legalization, with the president on their side. At the same time, Colombia is fighting the same battle. Abortion activists are fighting to legalize while a group of anti-abortionists is fighting to keep the current ban on abortion. Both of these countries’ decisions will have a huge impact on Latin America.

This is extremely sad news to hear. As Christians, we know the value of each one of these babies’ lives. Christ gave His life for them to be able to accept His gift and spend an eternity in Heaven. The sad but true reality is that the people of Argentina and Colombia don’t know the truth of the gospel. They are living their lives believing that good works, praying, and giving to the Catholic church will earn them a place in Heaven. They believe that the babies that they carry aren’t worth anything. We know the truth, we have God’s word, and we have the chance to tell these lost souls about a savior who loves them.

We currently have three missionary families in the country of Argentina and three families on deputation; in Colombia, we have one missionary family on the field and one family on deputation. We are blessed to have these laborers working to reach lost people for Christ, but it is not enough. There is always more work to be done. More people need to hear. Will you go? Will you surrender your life to share the most wonderful story ever told with people who have never heard? Please pray and consider these two countries. They need your help.
